What is the Best Metal Detector for You?
If you are just beginning in the hobby of metal detecting, choosing the best metal detector for you can be a pretty daunting task. For the beginner, it’s always best to study a number of metal detector reviews before deciding on purchasing one. Even better is to actually try it out for yourself. What’s best for one person may not necessarily be what’s best for you.
A good rule of thumb when buying your first metal detector is to get an all-purpose one. Here are a few of the best metal detectors for the beginning hobbyist.
White’s Classic 5ID Metal Detector uses very low frequency (VLF) technology, and features three modes of operation: pinpoint, all metal, and discrimination, as well as auto and manual ground balance options. It gives a target depth readout, and has a maximum target depth of 10” for a US quarter. Eight discrimination tones and LCD identification helps the beginner identify his target.
The Bounty Hunter Pioneer 505 Metal Detector features five modes, including all-metal discriminate, adjustable discrimination, notch and auto-notch. Its 4-level iron discrimination feature is able to tune out worthless items like small nails but detects larger iron relics and collectibles. Its target depth readout indicates the depth of coin-size objects in inches. Depending on the selected operating mode, it can detect coins that are located more than 10 inches deep and larger objects more than 5 feet deep.
The Fisher F4 Metal Detector has four operating modes, and features auto ground balance, pinpoint mode, and selectable notch mode. It also gives a target depth readout, and has a maximum target depth of 10” for a US quarter. Four discrimination tones and LCD identification enhances target identification.
Happy treasure hunting!
